NEW YORK, NY – March 16, 2006 - - David Hume Kennerly has been named NBC News Contributing Editor, effective immediately. The announcement was made today by NBC News President Steve Capus.
In his role at NBC, Kennerly will provide special still-photo essays on a variety of topics for NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC, MSNBC.com, Telemundo, and all other NBC Universal outlets. Kennerly concluded a ten-year run as Contributing Editor for Newsweek Magazine earlier this year, and is now set to deliver his special brand of documentary photography to network television. "Still photography and television are the perfect visual match," Kennerly says, "combining the two conveys a depth and excitement beyond what you see in today’s print publications. My career has been built on taking pictures behind the scenes of history where television cameras are rarely allowed, and now I’m thrilled about the chance to bring those kind of images exclusively to NBC’s viewers."

American Photo magazine announced that David Hume Kennerly is on their "The 100 Most Important People in Photography" list in the May/June issue, on sale now. This important feature takes the pulse of where photography is heading and who is taking it there.
Kennerly joins fellow photographers Annie Leibovitz, David Burnett, Dirck Halstead, Harry Benson, Patrick Demarchelier, and David LaChapelle, among others, along with top photo editors, artists, dealers, and publishers who also grace the list.
The coveted "Number One" title this year went to two people who have changed photography profoundly, Mark Getty and Jonathan Klein, who head Getty Images, the world’s leading imagery company and the most dynamic agent of change in the photographic industry today. The fine folks at Getty Images represent Kennerly.
